Purpose of study: The purpose of this paper is to identify benefits and quantify the qualitative outcomes of the implementation of a nursing practice change to a blended bedside shift change report. Research Design The research design used for this study was a quasi-experimental pre- and postimplementation design. As we have learned in the text, a quasi-experimental study is used in nursing to determine the effects of an intervention or practice change, the independent variable, on the outcome of the patient, the dependent variable. Seeking a cause-and-effect result. Sample Selection This study used a convenience sample of patients in seven medical- surgical units in a large university hospital who had been in the hospital for at least 48 hours and were scheduled for discharge at some point in the month while the baseline data was being collected. Both patients and nurses were surveyed for their data. Patient sample size at baseline was 233, 157 at 3 months, and 154 at 13 months postimplementation. While the sample size for nurses was 148 at baseline, 98 at 3 months, and 54 at 13 months postimplementation. Data Collection Methods, Measures and Tools Data was collected from both the patients and the nurses using a 17 item survey, all using a 5 point Likert-type response option of 5 being best and 1 being worst. The patients were given their survey to complete while in the hospital. It addressed nurse behaviors such as, treating the patient kindly and with respect, listening to the patient, informing the patient of their care, teach so the patient could understand, working with other nurses, and so on. Patient surveys were completed and placed in a sealed blank envelope and returned to the researcher to protect their confidentiality. One narrative question was added to the patient survey at the 3-month postimplementation point, asking how patients felt about the nurse- 2 to-nurse bedside report. The nurses survey was completed online
