Rangeland Pursuit The purpose of this activity is to provide students with hands on experience in collecting data and working with team members while applying concepts used in the classroom to the field. Goals: Students will: • Be able to successfully identify rangeland related items. • Be able to use resource guides and materials to help them successfully identify plants and their characteristics. • See the impacts of human litter. • Learn about rangeland management and resources. • Learn how to work together in groups to solve problems. Materials Needed: • Ziploc bags or envelopes • Markers to number the bags to match the items on the scavenger hunt • Teacher copies of the Scavenger Hunt with partner or group names • Resource books, plant guides, etc. • Clipboards (recommended, but not required) Process: 1. Take approximately 60 minutes the day before to go over the words, assign partners, and allow student to figure out which resources they are going to need. The next time the class meets, they should go outside and perform the “hunt”. 2. Have students go on a “scavenger hunt” with their partner (or group) to find items that exemplify the assigned characteristics. 3. Take approximately 30 minutes the day following the hunt to review and discuss what the students found. Variations: • Add or delete items that you think would be interesting or applicable to your “hunt” to make it more meaningful to your class. Docsity.com
