Ray Charles Robinson, born September 23, 1930, in Albany, Georgia, was a brilliant and musically gifted child. Despite losing his sight due to glaucoma and the tragic drowning of his younger brother, Ray attended the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, where he honed his piano skills and learned to earn a living. After his parents' deaths, he signed contracts and began his career, releasing his first song, Confession Blues, in 1949. He later moved to Los Angeles and worked with Lowell Fulson, recording hits like Baby, Let Me Hold Your Hand and Kissa Me Baby. In 1953, he signed with Atlantic Records and went on to write and perform various genres, including blues, jazz, and pop.
