Lumibao Section: BSA 1F Reaction Paper “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker,” a four-episode limited series inspired by the writing of her great-great-granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles (On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker The show tells a powerful and important story in African American history. The historical drama follows Walker, an African American woman born in 1867 who became the first female self-made millionaire in America after founding Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, a line of hair care products and cosmetics for black women. It sticks to Walker’s (Sarah Breedlove) adult life, beginning in St. Louis in 1908, where the stress of working as a washerwoman and living with an angry drunk who hits her and calls her a mangy dog makes her hair start to fall out. When the gorgeous Addie Munroe comes to Walker’s door selling her line of hair products, Walker sees a way out and goes to work for Munroe. Soon she’s replicating Munroe’s formula and starting her own company, which will eventually be called the Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Co. after her third husband. The series tackles beauty stereotypes and how that affects women of color. The Madam CJ walker's life is being brought out to our television screens this time so I think this is important to continue to tell stories of trailblazing women especially African American women who would have just done so much and she did so much to be in the first self-made female millionaire just everything that she was able to overcome at her journey, how she took no for an answer and how she lived to see the fact that she also helped build generational wealth for her family I think is really important . Sarah Breedlove or Madam CJ Walker is very relatable character I love the presence that she has I love that you could just look at her and just see the confidence and even sometimes insecurities Netflix did such a very great job which is bringing out the motions of what Sarah was going to, she's going through this journey specially during these difficult times when black woman was less than even the black man. Also Sweetness, I really enjoyed his character who are trying to better themselves , trying to better everyone else I guess this is dream that they want to come to fruition not only so they can help themselves in their family but to help others. I like the contrast that in this series between Ransom and Sweetness even though Sweetness might not be on the up and shady I love how they both have the same ideals and they want to succeed for their families but they have different ways of going about that. To see a woman with the African American woman who had a vision and never take no for an answer and continue to follow through until she can see her dreams come to fruition even though when a lot of people before her could never imagine that a black woman could achieve so much that she was able to do so shut off for keeping just the overall arcing theme of just feeling inspired about Madam CJ walker's journey everything that she had to overcome everything that she said out to do she push and she pushes she never gave up and she got to see her dreams come true and I really love that that's truly the overall theme of the story that you will probably want to get out of it. The battle between kind of good and bad with Madam CJ Walker and Annie Monroe their relationship in this series. Annie Monroe plays as sells woman who had this magical hair looks that helped Sarah basically grow over her back which inspired Sarah to get into the hair care business and then Annie
