If in doubt please contact an Invigilator. Q1. (a) What is the purpose of rectifiers in electronic equipment? (3 Marks) (b) Using the reference points in Figure 1, explain the operation of the full- wave bridge rectifier and indicate the polarity of the voltage at the output terminals C and D. (Ignore capacitor in description). (10 Marks) (c) Calculate for the rectifier shown: (i) The maximum voltage Vm across A-B. (3 Marks) (ii) The peak voltage Vp across C-D. (4 Marks) (iii) The average voltage Vd.c. across the load given that VRIP = 20% Vp. (5 Marks) (d) Draw a fully detailed waveform for the output voltage across the load and show by means of a straight line, the average voltage. (8 Marks)
