REFLECTION ABOUT WORK IMMERSION IN FIRE STATION Work immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A senior high school student has to undergo work immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal. Through work immersion, the students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related environments related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence. My work immersion had a significant impact on my experience and the development of my growth as our training makes us more responsible, more aware of what action we should take, and the presence of mind that we must maintain at all costs because that’s what most needed to learn in a real-life emergency case of a fire accident. The training they gave us was an eye-opening in terms of what it’s like to be one of them as a firefighter, even if it’s not half to what they experience. I learn a lot, especially how to rescue someone, which is part of the “basic life support,” being physically fit, rolling and connecting a hose during fire truck operation, how to tie a rescue knot, which is one of the basic rescue technique, and how to dress a firefighter’s personal protective equipment. In the end, we successfully convey every training that they taught us and live up with this knowledge and experience. I am guaranteed that this training will be extremely beneficial to me, especially in terms of how to communicate or socialize with my elders in a more professional manner, and that this work immersion will serve as a valuable reference for my upcoming college life and future job.
