REFLECTION LIFE AS A SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT IN A NEW NORMAL My final year of high school brings with it an entirely new normal, which I have to adjust to. The pandemic that has afflicted us all has defining this school year unlike any other. Nothing is "business as usual" anymore, and all aspects of the school have been modified to comply with the new health regulations. First of all, fewer students are physically attending school. We are only permitted to attend classes in person for half of the week; the other half is spent online. Being physically apart from my friends and peers, who I used to see and interact with every day, is odd. In this new normal, wearing masks has become a necessary accessory. It takes some getting used to that we are all forced to wear masks whenever we are on school property. Although wearing a mask feels limiting and constricting, I suppose we all have to grow used to it. Wearing masks will become commonplace as the pandemic spreads. The pandemic has also changed the atmosphere in the classroom. Our classroom seating wasn't set out with physical distance in mind prior to the pandemic. Now, though, each kid has a specific seat that is situated 1.5 meters apart. The days of having group talks and group work while seated in groups or circles are long gone. The largest difficulty is probably getting acclimated to virtual learning. Despite the best efforts of the institutions to accommodate the students, the abrupt transition to online learning can be challenging. Even if the hours are frequently lengthy and the homework is intense, I believe it's preferable than not receiving any education at all. The school year may be different, but the fact remains that senior year is still a crucial year in a student's life. Even amidst the challenges brought by the pandemic, we are still pushing through. For seniors like me, this is a year of tough decisions, future planning, and making the most out of the limited opportunities presented to us. We need to be adaptive and resilient in a world that is always changing. We are learning as senior high school students not just from books but also from real-life experience, conquering hardships, and making the most of the difficulties that the new normal has presented us with. Despite the situation, we are still dedicated to pursuing our education and long-term objectives and are prepared for whatever that comes our way.
