It portrays the life of a family that has an activist member. It includes the start of recruitment until the punishment for being an activist. This movie also showcases how women were treated and behaved at that time. The family close ties were indeed strong before, but because of the circumstances, they became wrecked. In the movie, it depicts how dirty politics is even before that, in which those who are in the position are cruel and do horrible things. Dekada Sitenta is about Amanda's family and all the struggles they experienced at the time of Martial Law. It also showcases how unequal treatment is for men and women. Amanda has five children, which gets them involved in activism when the martial law era comes. They have first-hand experience of how this government badly treats the people who go against them. It demonstrates violence and injustice, specifically when one of her children dies and she can’t take legal action since the killer is unknown. It shows how frustrating justice can be. This movie is such a great scenario to go back to and to never forget the sacrifices of our fellow Filipinos just to enjoy this freedom we have right now. There is a huge difference between life in Dekada Sitenta and our lives right now. It may be in family relationships or in politics. In the movie, women are responsible for household chores and have limited things to do in the house or even in society. However, on this day, women have voices. They can do the things they wanted to do, and that is because of the women's empowerment movement. It advocates equal treatment for men and women since everyone has the right to freedom and equal opportunity for all. The family ties in the movie are indeed strong. However, because of some circumstances, it has changed. As a result of various factors affecting the relationship between parents and their children, the bond between a family has weakened today. When it comes to politics, there are some similarities and differences between the situation in the movie and in the present time. The movie's setting was in the era of martial law, in which only the president had the power to exercise all power and authority. Citizens who go against the government will be jailed, tortured, and even killed. The justice in the movie was blind and unequal. Politics in the past was indeed filthy and unjust. On the other hand, politics in present times has similarities to the movie, just like how politics is still dirty and characterized by injustice. The difference is that citizens have the freedom to voice their opinions regarding our circumstances. They can freely criticize the wrongdoings of the government without resorting to any kind of violence. Today’s politics is much better than in the movie, but still not the best since there are still some injustices we encounter.
