Peñafiel Reflection Paper about Blasted Hopes BS Accountancy -1 Philippine Literature Blasted Hopes ( Nalpay A Namnama) By: Leona Florentino This poem and its message portray suffering and pain from given up hope that once been so strong and determinate. This poem also shows a great feeling of sorrow and loyalty. Life is not all about receiving what you had given because sometimes things are not really meant for you even you badly wanted to have it. As what have mention in the poem in its English version “What is gladness and joy, are endowed to one who is loved, for truly there is one to share, all his suffering and pain.” In life, we are grateful and at the same time happy for the fact that we have those who loves us, that stays with us whether we are in pain and sorrow. Those people who love us offer their shoulder to cry on and a hand to hold when life is a mess. Life is not about getting all we want because sometimes even the love we want to receive back from one person is hard to get. Not all people are lucky to have someone that have their back and share the love they are feeling. In her poem which stating that “Shall I curse the hour when first I saw the light of day, would it not been better a thousand times I had died when I was born.” In my own perspective, as a reader this truly displays a great sorrow, wherein, her life is as good as dead already. This lines are showing deep emotion of agony. Life is useless and lifeless which gives her an idea that it would be better if she does not came to existence in the first place. The lines in her piece “Would I want to explain but my tongue remains powerless, for now do I clearly see to be spurned is my lot. But would it be my greatest joy to know that it is you I love, for to you do I vow and promise I make it’s you alone for whom I would lay my life”. In those lines I can clearly see her how he has given up her hope that she holds upon a very long time and the courage to speak up because it is too late and her word would not matter anymore. With this lines she already accepted that the love she has is a one sided feeling but still her loyalty upon death will be only reserved for her only love.
