REFLECTIVE ESSAY ON LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES 1 Reflective Essay on Leadership Competencies Chamberlain University NR504 REFLECTIVE ESSAY ON LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES 2 Reflective Essay on Leadership Competencies   Leaders can be placed into leadership or rise into leadership organically (Whitehead, Diane K. et al., 2017).  Knowledge, skills, and attitude (KSA) are the foundation of healthcare leadership (Heinen et al., 2019).   To become a leader in healthcare, one must be a lifelong learner and willing to adapt to changing environments (Heinen et al., 2019). In this essay, I will be discussing leadership competencies that I possess and competencies that I need to continue to develop and refine.  This essay will also discuss how leadership competencies will impact my future practice, along with a conclusion of what I have learned through reflection.  Through the course of this essay, I hope to gain insight into my strengths and weakness as a leader in healthcare. Leadership Competencies I Possess The leadership competencies defined by the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) in 2015 include the following skills:  communication, knowledge of healthcare environment, leadership, professionalism, and business skills (American Organization for Nursing Leadership, 2015).  Within the established leadership competencies, I feel that my strengths lie within communication and knowledge of the healthcare environment.   To have effective communication skills, a leader should be able to build relationships with those within healthcare and the community, present information to diverse populations in an engaging and informative manner, and resolve conflict and influence behavior (American Organization for Nursing Leadership, 2015).  Communication skills have not always been my strong suit.  When I began practicing as a nurse, I was forced to interact with strangers and realized that the worse that could happen is making a fool of myself and that the world would not stop turning because I said something out of turn or incorrectly.  As I began stepping outside of
