Calvin Prest Ms. Palumbo September 30, 2009 Response to Gourmet Coffee Thesis: The ideal Starbucks consumer is one of respect and high class, but the products that attract those consumers are gained through cruel employment practices. The article about Starbucks and its relation to skeptical employment practices gave me a new perspective on how to look at my visual for our second project. The idea and the background that she gave the reader prior to discussing Starbucks policies gave a unique side of an analysis that I had not thought about before. I was extremely confused at the start of the essay and it was most likely because all the information that was being discussed was foreign to me. I have taken a few economics class here at Kentucky but the types of policies and procedures she was talking about were as alien as anything written is English could be. I had no idea what she was talking about or why she was talking about it until I began to read the section that discuss’ Starbucks. Once the passage about Starbucks began I understood exactly what was going on and why she made the decision she did. If the section on Starbucks was first I would have read it and asked myself why would I care? Then most likely I would have not read the section of the economic policies because I had already developed a sense of apathy earlier. But by confusing the reader right off the bat, and then keying them into what is
