I believe that I not only exude the leadership in an academic setting, but beyond that as well. One reason I would be a great representative of this institution is because of my grit and determination. I have worked so incredibly hard to earn the opportunity to even be considered for National Honors Society. Although I had to overcome many obstacles, the concept of perseverance was especially important throughout the journey. Another quality I can speak to is my positive attitude. I have always tried to make it a priority to exemplify a sense of profitableness in the midst of both success, and hardship. There are many qualities that make up a good leader, and I hope that I can set an example for others. However, one of my greatest weaknesses as a leader is my lack of ability to implement my thoughts into action. I have the tendency to simply "go with the flow" or remain quiet. Furthermore, I also tend to do things all at once, instead of spreading things out. This can result in unneeded stress, and anxiety. Overall, I definitely have my strengths and weaknesses as a leader. I hope that by being a part of opportunities that provide me with a role of leadership, I will gain more strengths, and learn how to cope with my weaknesses. Sample 2: One of the pillars of being a member in NHS is leadership. I believe I excel in leadership. I have been involved in many activities and sports since Freshman year. Although, I don't participate in several activities I did Freshman or Sophomore year, it was good experience being able to get involved in different outlets at West. The various activities not only gave me access to leadership opportunities, but also it allowed me to meet a wider range of students from Olathe West. That has only increased my awareness of the ideas of the majority of students at West and the leadership opportunities I have. There are multiple examples I could give of leadership I have had at Olathe West and in my community. Within debate, I was the tournament director for our Olathe West Debate Tournament Invitational in the first year the school was open. This was a big deal because I was able to get experience facilitating the tournament to help it run productively and efficiently, and it ended up turning out well. This year I was able to join the Writing Center and that has given me the ability to help take leadership and initiative to help students make their papers for English better. Since we are a new school, Principal Novacek created Principal's Advisory to be able to make Olathe West the best it possibly can be. I have had a big part in that, helping build a foundation for future Owls. Probably even more important than leadership within school is leadership within the community. I have made it my goal to leave a positive mark on any community I'm in. I have played an instrumental role in my Youth Group at church. Whenever my Youth Leader needed someone to teach elementary students, he has always been able to count on me to help out. I have also played a big role in strengthening my youth group at my church by setting up activities we have been able to do together. A second big role I have played in Olathe specifically has been with the Olathe Youth Court. I have participated on juries at the courthouse for youth cases multiple times. Every time I have went, I always make it my goal to make my thoughts heard on different cases. I would say my greatest weakness within leadership is really putting myself out there and willing to be wrong and being able to be corrected. I have been working on this by trying to always make my opinions known while making sure I have an open ear to hear what others have to say. I have been trying to build my listening skills. Overall, if you want someone who is going to be involved and contribute constantly within NHS, I believe I will be a great addition to NHS.
