The total set of beliefs that we have about ourselves b. Physical characteristics, demographical characteristics, psychological c. We are not born with those beliefs, we acquire them slowly i. Changes overtime, more greater change when younger d. We get beliefs from: i. Watching our own behavior, how we act and react ii. Monitor our own thoughts and feelings (ex. Shy with strangers, etc) iii. Notice how others respond to us (ex. People say I am the life of the party) e. B = f(P,E) : behavior = function(person and environment) f. When most people see us, they tend to see us in a narrow range of situations (ex. Classroom, the field, etc) i. We behave in more or less the same way, so they think they understand and underestimate the variability of our behavior in other situations ii. We do the same to them g.
