Serial Killer Project Assignment: For this project, you are going to delve into the world of a specific serial killer (or killer pair). You will research the historical attributes of a specific serial killer (or killers) , create a PowerPoint or other media presentation, and eventually present your report to the class. We will be looking at these throughout the semester so make sure you keep your research notes as your fellow students may have questions you have not included in the presentation and you will be expected to be the “expert” on your killer(s). 1. The Research: You will select 1 serial killer or pair from the following list or other with teacher approval (note each individual may only be selected once to enable each student appropriate use of resources and to keep it interesting!): David Berkowitz Joel Rifkin Joseph DeAngelo Ted Bundy Albert Fish John Wayne Gacy Ed Kemper Charles Manson Richard Ramirez Peter Kurten Henry Lee Lucas John Christie Ed Gein Jeffrey Dahmer Albert Desalvo Andrei Chikatilo Ted Kaczynski Mary Ann Cotton Marybeth Tinning Nannie Doss Dorothea Puente Jack the Ripper Fritz Haarmann Wayne Williams Nicolas Claux Arthur Shawcross H.H. Holmes Vlad Dracula Rodney Alcala Samuel Little Bianchi/Buono Ng/Lake Malvo/Muhammad Brady/Hindley Coleman/Brown Lucas/Toole Research the following specific questions about your serial killer(s) (note that these questions should serve merely as a guideline and suggestion to research – not everyone will be able to answer every question. You should consider your own questions to pose and answer as you do your research): a. What was their childhood like? b. Were there any precursors? Did childhood behavior reflect problems? c. What was their adult life like? Did they finish high school/college? Did they marry? Have children? Were they loners? d. Were they ever diagnosed with a mental disorder? Did they ever receive treatment? e. What was the nature of their crimes? What was the time span for their crimes? How many victims? f. What was their behavior like when they were caught? g. Were they found capable to withstand trial? h. What were they charged with and sentenced to? i. Are they still alive? Were they executed? Did they die differently than their sentence? *YOU MUST USE A MINIMUM OF 3 SOURCES! These sources may not include Wikipedia! You may use resources you find helpful and interesting however your minimum resource count must come from scholarly websites which would include places like .edu, .org, or .gov. If you are not sure if a source can count as one of your required 3, just ask. 2. The Presentation Your presentation needs to contain the following: -A minimum of 15 total slides or be a minimum of 5 minutes in length -A minimum of five photos – two of which must be the person you are researching -If you incorporate videos they may ONLY be of the subject or a news clip from their capture/trial. -Answer (in some form) the questions that you are researching -A list of references (last slide or video end)
