Racial Abuse and Harassment are forms of direct discrimination. For example: Because the events that have occurred recently (September 11th attack) many Muslims are discriminated against on the ground of their race. People with serious mental health problems may have no insight into their condition or may display challenging behaviour . Health and Social care practitioners may need to protect the public from an individual protect the individual from harming themselves. The MENTAL HEALTH ACT therefore tries to strike a balance between maintaining basic civil liberties of the individual with the need to impose interventions in the patient/client’s life.
