We must start educating them on the awareness of STD’s, encouraging them to use protection, to prevent infections that in time can increase to something greater that can cause memory loss and more health issues. A lot of insurances cover free STD screenings especially Medicare, they need to be aware of this and understand if they do contract something there are treatments that are affordable to them. Healthcare professionals should start questioning the senior population about their sex life, and doing assessments to be able to catch a STD. Buying condom might be an issue for some, so clinics should provide free condoms to their senior patients, as well as contributing to senior communities. Conclusion In conclusion a sexually transmitted infection is an infection that is caught from the act of having sexual intercourse as well as oral and anal contact is consider. Education is the key to stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases in the senior community. It is spreading because the older community with weaker immune systems, as well as lacking the education that is needed while they are dating. It is perfectly normal for them to continue to enjoy their life and be sexually active as long as they are protecting themselves. We have to get rid of the sigma that older people don’t have sex, and do the necessary steps as medical professionals to help with the education of the older community.
