Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe, England, in 1643. Expelled from school at 12, he went back to education at Cambridge University, working as a valet to pay for it. Newton's discoveries include the laws of universal gravitation and motion, and he was the first to build a reflecting telescope. He had a rivalry with Robert Hooke and was knighted by Queen Anne in 1705.
