Psychology 201 Monday September 19, 2011 Notes -While you sleep, your body recharges your ideas, and projects them into visual images. -When you’re asleep your “batteries” recharge. -Manifest Content - While we sleep we consolidate the memories from the day. -Consolidate memories convert short term into long-term memories. -After 3 days, you begin to enter “Micro-Sleep” -Micro-sleep is when you fall asleep with your eyes open. -Micro-sleep is also known to induce hallucinations. -Fatal-familial insomnia, is a disease that the body will refuse to shut down, and eventually kills the person. (Usually after 5 or so days) -Fatal-familial insomnia is usually hereditary; Genetic disorder. -Narcolepsy is inability to control sleep patterns. -Sleep apnea is when the person stops breathing while asleep. -Night terrors are realistic nightmares that make it uncomfortable to sleep. -Sleep Paralysis is when the mind is awake, and the body is asleep. -Sleepwalking is altered states principle. This is when the body is acting out the events from the day. -Sleep eating is more common than it used to be. -Blatant content – the real meaning behind a dream. Why we dream. -REM rebound – the longer you’ve been awake, the quicker you dream. -
