TERM 1 1 DEFINITION 1 Smokes, Smokes as everybody might know smokes are very bad for you and nearly the whole nation is addicted to them.Smoking can be fun, but once you get addicted to it , it won't be that fun anymore. TERM 2 2 DEFINITION 2 Smoking is one of the most addictive drugs nowadays, it kills over 433,000 people each year, thats about 1,200 deaths a day! People waste $160 a week for cigarettes, which means they spend $8,500 a year on them approximately, with that type of money you could buy anything or even go on a family vacation anywhere than just sitting outside and taking puffs. TERM 3 3 DEFINITION 3 If you didnt know Cigarettes contain over 4,000 chemicals with 43 or more cancer-causing in other words carcinogenic and other 400 toxins. A few of these 400 toxins is Nicotine, Tar, Carbon monoxide, arsenic and much more. TERM 4 4 DEFINITION 4 Tar is the stuff that keeps the road together, Arsenic ~ stuff that is used in cleaning products, Carbon Monoxide ~ a flammable gas and Nicotine ~ Nicotine is highly addictive, it is inhaled into the lungs, nicotine can also reach your brain within six seconds. In small doses, nicotine acts as a stimulant to the brain. In large doses, it's a depressant, inhibiting the flow of signals between nerve cells. In even larger doses, it's a lethal poison, affecting the heart, blood vessels, and hormones. Nicotine in the bloodstream acts to make the smoker feel calm. TERM 5 5 DEFINITION 5 Your lungs can be very badly affected by all of these chemicals. Coughs, colds, wheezing and asthma are just the start but if you continue to smoke these are what kind of sickness you can get, Longtime-bronchitis, Lung disease, strokes, pneumonia even blood clotting in the brain. All these health problems can most likely kill you or harm you in a very major way. TERM 6 6 DEFINITION 6 Smoking is not only bad for you, it is also bad for the people surrounding you. People around you can also end up in bad conditions because of you, in that case, this is called is second- hand smoking. Second-hand smoking is when tobacco smoke that is exhaled by a smoker or is given off by burning tobacco (as of a cigarette) and is inhaled by persons nearby, Another word for this is passive smoke. So basically secondhand smoking is when a person that doesn't smoke inhales tobacco. TERM 7 7 DEFINITION 7 The prices in cigarettes in the past year has been a big change. In 2010 for the cheapest packet of smokes it was $13 compared to now it is $19 and is still increasing. The price has increased by $6, it might not seem that much to you but when you think about it, its still much for the people who dont have much and are in need. TERM 8 8 DEFINITION 8 The New Zealand Government aims to have NZ smoke free by the year 2025, that is probably the main reason behind the tobacco smokes prices increasing during the years. TERM 9 9 DEFINITION 9 In my opinion i think that, this is a very good move for NZ because for me, I see smokers as people who spend their money on something that is bad for their health instead of spending money on healthy food that leads to a healthy happy life! I also know for myself that I will not be a smoker when I grow up but that just depends on life cause we can say stuff now and seem so positive but we never know whats gonna happen in the future. But for now I hope you have learnt something from my speech and I DO hope the Governments move will work out as planned by 2025! TERM 10 10 DEFINITION 10 Thank you for listening to my speech and dont smoke, stay in school kids.
