SO101 Social Status By: SO101 Week 3 Assignment Social statuses can make you a part of something or set you apart from the rest. You can be grouped according to the type of status. An ascribed status is a status that you are born with. My ascribed status would be that I’m an African-American male and I am the eldest of four children. An achieved status is a status that you create for yourself. My achieved status would be that I am a college student and full time employee. The master status is the last status and it is the overall status that identifies you. My master status would be that I am a proud father and that status is a major role for myself. Most of my statuses are different from my parents and grandparents, The most noticeable one is that my mother and grandmother are both females and they would be viewed differently than me. My father and grandfather would have the same ascribed status as me. Most of their achieved statuses are different from mine. My mother, grandmother, and grandfather have graduated college. All of us are all parents. Their master statuses are different from mine based on what they choose to be a master status for them. Mines is being a proud father and they may have other desires that they choose to use as master status. I do not think my parents and grandparents have the same personal identification as me being that times have changed dramatically due to technology. Technology has changed the way we do a lot of things in this period of time versus the time period when my parents and grandparents were experiencing the world back then.
