In the article "Tween and teen health" published by Mayo Clinic, on December 21, 2019, it is stated that today social networks are an important part of the lives of adolescents. It is understood that social networks have the focus of communicating, however, they are not always used for these purposes, as described by Mayo Clinic in the main idea, in order to highlight the benefits and harms of the use of virtual platforms. First of all, social networks allow adolescents to communicate, meet people from other cultures. In addition, they are a form of entertainment, since due to the great variety of topics that can be found in these, it is easy to get distracted, as well as to express oneself. However, Mayo Clinic experts state that impertinent use of these can cause disturbances in sleep and concentration. Also, young people in some cases are intimidated and harassed. Similarly, it is important to note that, also depending on the way in which the adolescent uses social networks, its impact could be determined. In 2015 a study showed that the massive use of social networks was highly related to depression and anxiety. In this sense, experts have suggested that adolescents who publish more content on the networks are more likely to share personal data, which in the long term can be intimidated or harassed. As tools for parents to combat the scourge of social networks, Mayo Clinic proposes establishing limits where the young person can have an effective management of the networks, the correct supervision of an adult in the use of these and promoting the fact that in social networks can find various topics. However, the focus is on the adolescent being prepared to discern between those that add to his growth and those that subtract his growth. From my point of view, it has been a pleasure to read this article. In particular, | found it to be super interesting and captivating, since the topic addressed is a reality that plagues young people, and we must educate ourselves on the issue. In the same way, it is suggestive since it keeps you in the thread. The author - a Mayo Clinic expert - outlines the pros and cons of adolescent social media use in a clear and detailed way. In addition, he realistically argues his ideas, that is, he raises them with evidence, and he does so in plain language, which can be analyzed by everyone, regardless of academic level. In short, this article should be presented in schools, specifically in school meetings, so that young people, together with their teachers and parents, can analyze the risks to which they are subjected due to the massive use of social networks, that parents can follow the suggestions that the Mayo Clinic expert proposes.
