SOCW 6361 Analysis of a Policy Week 8 Assignment Criminal Justice Reform The number of Americans in the criminal justice system increases day by day, criminal justice reform is a necessity. Changes need to make to policies and racial profiling amongst communities and other issues. This problem is working to help prisoners prepare for what happens after they are incarcerated. Reform is trying to fix errors in organizations. By fighting for nationwide reform at a variety of government levels, the nation can right wrongs before the problems become worse. Evaluate the policy’s strengths and weaknesses. What is working? What is not working? There are many strengths related to this policy. One is that it strengthens ex-offenders ability to care for their families once they return. Next, it helps build relationships inside and outside the jail. Then, it helps with resilience and resources to prevent them for relapse or going back to jail. Also, it helps the criminals feel included and provide the help needed for them to become a better individual. Last, it will help create safer communities. On the other hand, with strengths come weaknesses. One is the reform has not been proven to reduce relapse. Next, society makes it hard for them to come back fully (hard to find jobs and affordable housing). Then, the individual has to be willing to change and make good decisions. Next, it doesn’t stop how many people that are being sent to prison and why. Also, you don’t know how affective the policy would be. Last, it may be impossible to fund the entire program. How will changing this policy affect clinical social workers or the clients of clinical social workers?
