(a) In the context of software development, a task-set is a collection of software engineering work tasks, related work products, quality assurance points, and project milestones. Different projects demand different task-sets. The project manager and/or the development team should select the task-set, based on problem- and project- characteristics. Discuss. Support your presentation with a suitable illustrative example. (7 Marks) (b) Elaborate on each of the following “traditional” software development lifecycle models: i. Waterfall; ii. Incremental; iii. Spiral. Your presentation should address the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. You should also characterise the type(s) of project(s), if any, where application of each lifecycle model would be justified. (12 Marks) (c) Identify and elaborate on the three phase lifecycle of the agile process model known as Adaptive Software Development, ASD. Support your presentation with appropriate illustration(s). (6 Marks) Q2. Project management is a human-intensive activity. Because of this, competent software engineers, who do not possess the correct blend of people- skills, often make poor project managers. Discuss, in detail, the critical “people” aspect of project management for software projects. Use the following headings to structure your presentation: i. The stakeholders; ii. Team leadership; iii. Team structure; iv. Coordination and communication. (25 Marks) Q3. (a) Consider the following quote, attributed to Aristotle: “It is the mark of an instructed mind to rest satisfied with the degree of precision that the nature of the subject admits, and not to seek exactness when only an approximation of the truth is possible.” What, if any, is the relevance of the above-listed Aristotle-quote to the management of modern software development projects? Justify your answer. (5 Marks) (b) Before an estimate of the effort and cost required to complete a software project can be made, the project planner needs to generate an estimate of the project’s “size”.
