The rites of life and death are important in Hinduism. After birth, a name ceremony is performed by a priest 10 days later. Marriage is arranged by the parents. After death, the body is cremated before sunset on the same day, and the ashes are thrown into a stream, preferably the Ganges. There is also a ritual of Sati. The Vedas are the main sacred texts of Hinduism, with more than 200 books written from 1500 BC to 1500.
