Post Comm Lecture 18 BRIC (S)  Brazil, Russia, India, China…and sometimes South Africa o Countries bigger than two million km2 o GDP over US $600 Billion o Population over 100 million o US meets all these criteria but they already have an in so the founding of BRIC came because of the international relations of the four countries were terrible  Russia o Is dedicated themselves as being the opposition to the western world in the sphere of international relations Georgian-Russian war 2008  Georgia has never wanted to be involved/associated/apart of Russia  North and South Ossetia o North is in Russia o South is in Georgia and they declared independence  Russian encourage the South Ossetians to declare their independence even though the Ossetians didn’t really like Russia o Russians start granting citizenships to the South Ossetians o Russia is keeping the peace to prevent a ethnic civil war and Georgia is pissed about it but doesn’t do anything about it  Georgians start shipping crappy wine to Russia and Russians find out do testing and basically say that is actual crap in it and Georgians don’t deny it o Then they actually start putting pesticides in  NATO doesn’t wants to let Georgia in because they are surrounded by too many dangerous countries o Worried about article 10  Georgians had enough of the Russian troops “keeping the peace” so they attacked the Russians o They say that they are protecting the Ossetians from the Russians o March across the border seize the capital, all they care about it is fighting with Russia no one actually cares about the territory  Putin calls the bluff of the west that they won’t actually take action o US chooses to tell Russia to get out of Georgia because they’re sovereign and blah blah blah, and Putin knew they we wouldn’t send any troops in.
