Which states seem to have produced larger numbers of presidents than other states? (pg 413) 10. Has the office of the presidency expanded over time? How so? 11. What are the powers of the presidency given by the Constitution? 12. What are some of the limits on the president's powers? 13. What are the roles that president assumes and the powers associated with each? This is a big question so break it down. The slides should be helpful. 14. What is the difference between clemency, a pardon, and commutation? 15. How does the impeachment process work? Who are the presidents who have been impeached? Were they convicted? Which president escaped impeachment by resigning? What was Watergate? 16. What are presidential directives? Why are they important? What are some types of directives? Make sure to discuss executive orders, what they are and what they do. 16a. How did Eisenhower use his executive tools to enforce integration? 17. What is a military tribunal? How do they relate to presidential power? 18. What are signing statements? Why are they important? 19. What is the power to persuade? Why is it important to presidents? 20. What are presidential approval ratings and why are they important to presidential power? 21. What is the difference between the head of state and the head of government? Why is the U.S. presidency special with regard to these two responsibilities? 22. Discuss the tension between Congress and the Presidency when it comes to war. 23. What is the War Powers Act and why is it important? 24. What types of power struggles exist between the President and the Judiciary? 25. How is the modern White House organized? What are the most important organizations within the EOP (Executive Office of the President)? Who is one of the most important staff members within the EOP?
