The fundamental concepts and applications of profit planning, cash flow, financial statement analysis, cost of capital, capital budgeting, and working capital management are examined. Students are responsible for mastering the financial analysis techniques employed in management decision making for the purpose of maximizing the value of the corporate enterprise. OBJECTIVES: to develop an understanding of the role of the financial manager and the problems faced in obtaining the overall goal of maximizing the value of the firm to develop an understanding of the ethical conflicts facing the financial decision maker and the moral and ethical principles to be applied when making financial decisions to develop an understanding of the methods of analyzing financial statements to evaluate a firm’s liquidity, activity, debt and profitability to develop an understanding of the relation ship between interest rates risk and return and how this relationship effects the value of the firm to develop an understanding of the valuation of assets based upon discounted cash flows and the capital asset pricing model OUTCOMES TO BE ACHIEVED: the ability to identify the ethical dilemmas facing corporate management and the importance of ethics in the financial decision making process. the ability to create reports and perform financial analysis using the basic computer spread sheet programs the ability to apply time value of money concepts to financial decisions the ability to value corporate bonds and stocks utilizing the basic valuation models REQUIREMENTS: Participation, assignments and examinations PREREQUISITE: ACCT 202 Principles of Accounting II TEXT: Lawrence J.
