This has led to a rise in the expenses associated with acquiring and managing servers and storage. Cloud technology offers a solution by allowing consolidation of servers, storage, and databases onto a shared infrastructure that is both software and hardware based. This is done in a way that is self-service, easily scalable and metered, providing access to servers and storage on demand. #NEXT SLIDE By allowing for self-service, on-demand access to servers and storage that can be easily scaled and metered. Enterprise Manager offers the following benefits. • By Increasing Quality of Service: IT departments are seeking not only to reduce expenses but also to enhance the quality of service in terms of performance, availability and security. The use of cloud technology automatically improves availability characteristics. Additionally, it allows for the implementation of a unified identity and security infrastructure during the standard provisioning process, making security policies and compliance regulations an integrated part of the provisioning process, rather than an additional step. #NEXT SLIDE • By Enabling Faster Deployment: Designing the cloud infrastructure using standardized components such as servers, CPUs, storage, and networks, along with standardized configurations and tools, facilitates a streamlined, automated, and uncomplicated deployment process. #NEXT SLIDE •By Providing Resource Elasticity: The ability to adjust the capacity of a database in terms of storage size and computing power, gives applications the ability to adapt to the changing demands of business workloads. #NEXT SLIDE • By Rapid Provisioning: Databases in a cloud environment can be quickly set up, often through a self-service infrastructure, allowing for faster deployment of applications. This shortens the time needed to deploy production applications, development platforms, or test configurations. #NEXT SLIDE Managing the Cloud Management Lifecycle With Enterprise Manager Enterprise Manager allows you to manage the entire Cloud lifecycle which includes the following: • Planning • Setting Up the Cloud • Building the Cloud • Testing and Deploying a Service • Monitoring and Managing the Cloud • Metering, Charging, and Optimization #NEXT SLIDE ETHICAL ISSUES Cloud computing allows users to access services on-demand and pay only for what they use, from anywhere in the world. However, this shift to cloud also raises multiple ethical concerns related to moving both services and data from local servers to external third-party data centers. The emergence of these ethical issues in cloud is influenced by various technological factors. Among them, security, privacy, compliance and performance metrics have a greater impact on ethical issues. : #NEXT SLIDE Privacy and Security When unauthorized access to sensitive data stored in the cloud is obtained - whether it be by a hacker, cloud provider or third party - it can be difficult to determine who and how that data is being misused, leading to a range of ethical concerns. To prevent such issues, privacy and security measures are crucial. For instance, your account information may be accessed by your bank without any security breaches, but the information can be shared with third parties to inform them of your purchasing habits, resulting in a violation of privacy. #NEXT SLIDE Compliance: A significant portion of privacy and security mechanisms are established through a set of standards. A cloud service should adhere to a subset of these standards that are relevant to the service provided. For example, the ISO/IEC 27018 standard outlines the controls necessary for the protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Cloud service providers storing or processing PII for public or private companies must adhere to multiple principles outlined by the standard in order to be compliant. If the cloud provider fails to meet these compliance requirements, it may not be chosen as a provider by clients who have compliance needs. #NEXT SLIDE Performance metrics: The expected performance of provided services is outlined in a Service Level Agreement (SLA), which is part of the general terms and conditions, focusing on performance metrics. In case of a violation of SLA performance metrics, there is a penalty mechanism in place to compensate customers. Some of the SLA performance metrics are not strictly enforced, meaning that minor violations may not result in compensation. For example, in the airline industry, if departure time is delayed by more than a certain number of hours (N hours), passengers are compensated, but if the delay is less than N hours, no compensation is made. If the airlines benefit from minor delays without penalty, it can be considered an ethical issue. As long as minor delays do not result in SLA violation compensation, customer rights are not respected, creating ethical concerns. #NEXT SLIDE Other ethical issues in the cloud: Environmental impacts: In 2007, Gartner estimated that the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industry was responsible for approximately 2% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Even though cloud data centers can afford to pay for their high energy consumption, they should aim to reduce energy consumption and use as much renewable energy as possible. Terms and conditions: T&C is a set of rules and obligations that serve as a legal agreement between the cloud provider and customer, outlining the responsibilities and rights of all parties involved. T&C not only outlines expectations based on technological criteria, but also includes conditions and penalties for any violations of these rules. That’s all thank you. -end
