Motivation So before we formally proceed to our discussion, let’s have an ice breaker. Students? We’re going to play a game! An interesting game which is called as guessing game! You’re going to guess the pictures and after you guess it I’m going to ask you a question on how you guessed the pictures! Am I clear? Now are you ready? Very good! Let’s proceed with the next one. “Good morning, sir.” (Bow their heads and listen to the prayer) “Present” “Pronouns.” “Adverbs!” Some adverbs and adverb phrases describe the way people do things. Examples: • The girls answered all the questions correctly. • He was driving carelessly. • The plane landed safely. • Paul plays guitar skillfully. • I’m madly in love with him. EXERCISE: Identify the Adverbs of Manner in the Paragraph. The Relay Race Four friends waited restlessly at their stations for the relay race. Suddenly, the starting pistol boomed loudly. Immediately, Naomi dashed soundlessly away. As Naomi ran past, George neatly grabbed the baton from her and started his run. Adverbs of Place • It describes where an action is done. • Adverbs of place do not modify adjectives or other adverbs. • Adverbs of place are normally placed after a sentence's object or main verb. List of Adverbs of Place: Adverbs of Place Examples: • The boys are playing upstairs. • The dog is in the garden. • We’re going to New York City on our school trip. • It’s very sunny but cold outside. • I’ve looked everywhere for my glasses. EXERCISE: Arrange the Jumbled Letters. • I’ve lived ____ for about two years. • English and German are _______ related. • Is mark _____ in bed? • His children go __________ with him. • John looked ______ but he couldn’t see anyone. Adverbs of Time • Adverbs of time answer the question "WHEN"? • It tells us when an action happened besides how long, how often. • Adverbs of time have standard positions in a sentence depending on what the adverb of time is telling us. Most Adverbs of Time list: Adverb of Time Examples: • The train has already left. • We moved into our new house last week. • Our favorite T.V. program starts at 6’o clock. • I’m going to my new school tomorrow. • I’ve been feeling tired lately. EXERCISE: Identify the Adverbs of time. • We shall now begin to work. • He called here a few minutes ago. • I have spoken to him yesterday. • He comes here daily. • Mr. Guptha formerly lived here. Adverbs of Frequency • Tell how often an action takes place. • Adverbs of frequency typically modify verbs, or action words, and show how often they occur. • Adverbs of frequency tell us how often something is done. Choose the adverbs in the following sentences and state their type. 1. I went to the market in the morning. 2. The dog quickly ran after the ball. 3. I often visit my grandparents. 4. Some elderly people drive slowly. 5. The children are playing upstairs. 6. Please wait patiently. 7. It’s very sunny but cold outside. 8. We travel abroad every year. 9. I am waiting here for my daughter. 10. We will leave today. F.
