Surname1 Name Instructor Course Date Teenage Pregnancy in My Community Introduction Teenage pregnancy is a social issue affecting most communities today (Domenico). By definition, it is a pregnancy in a female who is of age 19 and below or rather pregnancy for a female who is in her adolescent stage of life. Adolescence is a stage in a life characterized by rapid biological growth for both males and females. One effect of this stage is that people tend to test their sexual activeness/maturity without having a clear knowledge of the impending consequences this bears (Kapello). While other communities may consider it a minor issue, others consider it a gross issue, absolute misconduct and a contradiction to social and religious doctrines (Domenico). Teenage pregnancy is among the top issues affecting my Community, Milton; Atlanta, in Georgia State today. Statistics indicate that it has been on the rise over the past few years, something that has raised concerns among the concerned bodies. Considering the social-economic and cultural burden it bears, this paper examines teenage pregnancy in Milton, Atlanta. Surname2 Discussion Statistics In my community, teenage pregnancy is getting worse. Despite the gross measures that have been undertaken to curb this occurrence, statistics indicate that it has been o the rise. Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta—in 2019—revealed that from 2014 to 2016, teenage pregnancy in Milton increased by 5%, translating to 24 births for every 1000 teenagers. The rates declined to go into 2017 but rose once again from 2017-to 2019 (Williams). The current teenage pregnancy rate stands at 25 births for every 1000 children, the highest in Atlanta city. This trend keeps worrying about the involved persons within the community because the rates may surge if proper measures are not put in place to curb this. A myriad of causes and effects have been linked to this occurrence. At the same time, a number of measures have been put in place to curb teenage pregnancy in this location. Causes In my community, teenage pregnancy has majorly been linked to a lack of parental care. The busy work schedule of a typical American is equally affecting the parents in my community, and the results of this are being elicited via teenage pregnancies. Parents here hardly spend time with their children, meaning that they hardly teach their children about responsible sexual behaviours and other moral values in the community (Williams). Parental care expands to a lack of teachers, religious leaders and community heads such as healthcare leaders in taking advising the children about sexually apt behaviours, use of contraceptives and so on. Teenagers see it as a normal occurrence due to the lack of being advised against it. Effects Surname5 This paper discusses teenage pregnancy in my community. It is a rapidly escalating social issue majorly linked to a lack of parental concern. The occurrence has overburdened the victims emotionally, affecting almost every aspect of their lives, socially and academically. It is also a financial burden to the community. However, the community is enforcing necessary measures to curb the occurrence. Surname6 Works Cited Kappeler, Everlyn.
