A tentative description of exam iii for math 2204 elementary statistics. The exam covers probability, including general probability, binomial/general probability, and normal approximation to binomial probability. Additionally, it includes hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and sample size. Students are expected to find specified probabilities, approximations, confidence intervals, and sample sizes, as well as perform hypothesis tests.

Download Math 2204 Stats Exam III: Probability, Hypothesis Testing, Confidence Intervals and more Study notes Statistics in PDF only on Docsity! TENTATIVE Description of Exam III - Math 2204 - Elementary Statistics You will be provided with a set of formula sheets and tables. These same sheets will be given to you for each of the tests this semester, so PLEASE do not write on them. You will turn them in when you turn in your exams. Topics / Questions on Exam III (NOTE: This is a TENTATIVE description of the exam.) PROBABILITY (Approximately 54 points total) -- GENERAL PROBABILITY (4 questions, 6 points each) Find the specified probabilities. (This will be material of the sort found in Chapter 12.) -- BINOMIAL / GENERAL PROBABILITY (4 questions, 5 points each) Find the specified probabilities. (This will be material of the sort found in Chapters 12 & 13.) -- NORMAL APPROXIMATION TO BINOMIAL PROBABILITY (1 question, 10 points) Find an approximation to the specified probability. You MUST use the normal approximation to get any credit for this problem. (This type of problem is found in Chapter 13.) HYPOTHESIS TESTING / CONFIDENCE INTERVALS / SAMPLE SIZE (46 points total) -- Confidence Interval for the population mean (1 question, 12 points) Find a confidence interval. (This is from Chapter 14.) -- Sample Size (1 question, 10 points) Find the appropriate sample size to get a confidence interval with specified margin of error. (This is from Chapter 14.) -- Hypothesis Test (2 problems, 12 points each) (This is from Chapter 15.) For each of the problems, you will be given a claim to test as well as some sample data which you are to use to determine whether we accept or reject the claim. In particular, you will be told the sample size, the sample average, and the population standard deviation. You will also be given a value for the significance level. You will be asked for two things: Find the P-value for a hypothesis test. (8 of the 12 points) Decide whether to accept or reject the claim. (4 of the 12 points).
