ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN STUDENT LIFE INTRODUCTION Reduced academic performance is one of the most important consequences of social networking overuse for students. The results of a study on medical students showed that students who used social networks and internet more than average had a poor academic achievement and low level of concentration in the classroom . WHAT IS MEDIA Media can be defined as technologies that are intended to reach a large audience by mass communication .Media is that which reflect our society . WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA Social media is a collective term for websites and applications that focus on communication, community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration. People use social media to stay in touch and interact with friends, family and various communities.  EXAMPLE  Facebook (2.74 billion users)  YouTube (2.29 billion users)  WhatsApp (2 billion users)  Facebook Messenger (1.3 billion users)  Instagram (1.22 billion users)  WeChat (1.21 billion users)  TikTok (689 million users)  QQ (617 million users) TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA  Types of social Media Social Networks: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.  Media Sharing Networks: Instagram , Snapchat , YouTube.  Discussion Forums: Reddit, Quora, Digg.  Bookmarking & Content Curation Networks: Pinterest , Flip board.  Consumer Review Networks: Yelp, Zomato, Trip Advisor. There is something truly good, a gift from God" POSITIVE EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA Television can be a powerful teacher. Researchers can effectively use mobile services to get data any time more accurately. New Way To Represent The World New Relation With Consumers Information Age LITERATURE STUDY A Critical Review of the Literature of Social Media’s Affordances in the Classroom In 2015, The Pew Research Center reported that 84% of all U.S. adults use the internet (Perrin, 2015) and 65% use social media (Perrin & Duggan, 2015). In a survey of U.S. teenagers, they found that 92% of teens go online daily, and 71% use at least two social networking sites (Lenhart , 2015). Facebook is the most widely-used social media site, with 71% of teens using it, and Instagram is second with 52% of teens using it (Lenhart, 2015). Because the internet and social media play such a large role in both adults’ and teens’ lives in the U.S. and around the world, many scholars claim that they need to be better incorporated into the classroom to teach students how to use social media in ways that go beyond just personal use (e.g., Blaschke, 2014; Canning 2010; Leu et al., 2013; McNely, 2012). As technologies continue to advance and become a more prominent feature in people’s lives (Lenhart, 2015; Perrin, 2015; Perrin & Duggan, 2015), the ways that people interact, communicate, and learn continue to change as well, and many may thrive in learning situations where creativity, social interactions and collaboration through technology are fronted (Edwards Groves, 2011; Nichols, 2007). Some scholars argue that with the rapidity with which technology has changed society over the last two decades since the advent of Web 2.0, so too must school curricula to better prepare students for the future (Kalantzis & Cope, 2001; Mills, 2009; Moje, 2009; New London Group, 2000). While this argument has been made for the past twenty years, scholars continue to call for the adjustment of curricula to better meet the needs of our digital technology-based world. Even though classroom social media incorporation is often seen as a step towards embracing various methods of communication, the effectiveness for creating a learning environment or enhancing classroom learning is still widely debated (Ellison, Steinfield. RESERCH METHODOLOGY .This study deployed both primary and secondary data sources. The primary data source was collected through questionnaire while the secondary data was also built using literature study. This study focused on the social lifestyle. Positive Negative None Both of them PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA SURVEY OPINION ON SOCIAL MEDIA POSITIVE AND NAGATIVE USAGE DISSCUSSION OF FINDINGS When respondents were asked whether they have mobile phone, out of the total respondents of 1508, 1408(93.4%) responded in the affirmative whilst 100(6.6%) responded in the negative on the same issue. A follow up question as to whether the respondents had internet facility on their phones showed that a majority of the respondents representing 85.0% indicated that they had internet facility on their phones. A further follow up question was to find out whether respondents had knowledge of social media sites. All the respondents representing 100% responded in the affirmative. It can be deduced that most of the respondents have mobile phone with internet facility on it and they also have knowledge of social media sites. The above revelation confirmed Oberst’s (2010) study that 73% of American use social media sites. This is further corroborated by (Kist, 2008) who posits that 90% of teens in the United States have internet access and 75% use the internet to make plans and socialize with friends. CONCLUSION Social media is a really convenient and important communicate network for all the people nowadays. We can use it to know friends and keep contact with friends that came from different countries. We can also share our ideas so quickly so that all the things could develop so fast because people could tell us their ideas and we could improve it immediately. We could also learn new things on social media by watching or reading the things that people shared onto the social media. People could also sell things on social media freely which could reduce the expenditure of advertisements.  There are more advantages for using social media, however, there is always advantages and disadvantages for a thing. As social media is too convenient for people, almost most of them don't even have to 'speak out' to communicate with people. No longer, people will lost their communication skills.
