In current times, however, the issue has become a matter of urgency due to the increased number of gun violence witnessed across the country. The constitution of the United States is on trial on various platforms as legislatures, as well as other interested parties, deliberate on the best way forward of ending gun violence without infringing on the rights assured by the 2nd Amendment (Rosenthal, 2014). The 2nd Amendment states that “A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed” (Rosenthal, 2014). Recently, Governor Gavin Newsom of the state of California made headlines with his Historic 28th Amendment aimed at the US Constitution to end America’s gun violence crisis (Navarro, 2023). In his words, the proposed changes will effectively address the firearms issue without infringing on the 2nd Amendment's rights and at the same time leave everyone involved happy (Navarro, 2023). In today’s broadcast, Professor James Wayne from the local law school will join the program to elaborate on what the proposal would mean by the US Constitution and the right to own and use firearms if adopted.
