Download The Mystery of Attraction - Paper 2 | LING 12 and more Papers Linguistics in PDF only on Docsity! Essay Topics for “The Mystery of Attraction” Topic for Drafts 1 and 2 Write about a romantic couple you know, possibly yourself and a current or former romantic partner. In a coherent narrative, tell the story of how you/they met and why you think you/they were initially attracted to one another. (A “coherent narrative” is one that is full of details, mostly or entirely organized with attention to time order, using paragraph and sentence breaks and transitional expressions as part of a clear organizational strategy.) Draft 1 …is your in-class writing. Draft 2 (typed, double spaced, 700 words) …is due at the time of your meeting with Kate on May 5, 6, 7, or 8. Expanded Topic for Draft 3 and subsequent drafts Referring to the romantic couple you discussed in the first topic, above, apply one of the theories of mate selection we covered in “The Mystery of Attraction,” from Getting the Love You Want. Use the theory to explain why the couple initially got together and/or why the couple (has) remained together. (The theories of mate selection are (a) evolutionary, (b) exchange (c) persona and (d) Hendrix’s favored theory, imago.) Draft 3 (typed, double spaced, 1000 words) is due at class time on May 12 for Peer Response. Please download and print two copies of the peer response form; bring the forms to class with two copies of your draft. Tutoring Note: Kate may be gone the week of the 12th, but if she is in town, you may bring your Paper 2 draft or a learning log reading summary that you want to revise to your meeting with her. When is the paper due? You will receive a grade on this paper when your portfolio is graded during finals week. I won’t require that you hand it in to me at any specific time before that. I strongly recommend instead that you seek me out for a conference at a time that is convenient for both of us. In your course syllabus you have read that “You should schedule a conference with me whenever you want feedback on a paper assignment.” Please prepare for these conferences by identifying specific parts of the paper that you want feedback on, specific questions you have about revising the draft, and specific grammar issues. We will not have time in one conference to look at every grammar issue, not will we have time to identify which are the most important issues for you at the moment, so please do this preparation before we meet.
