The National Artist of the Philippines Fernando Amorsolo - Philippines' first National Artist and is officially recognized as the “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art. No. 1001, s. 1972 created and established "the Award and Decoration of National Artist”. What Does the Award Give? 1. Rank and title of National Artist, proclaimed by the President of the Philippines. 2. The National Artist gold-plated medallion and citation. 3. Lifetime emolument and material and physical benefits. ● Minimum cash award of 200,000 for living awardees & minimum cash award of one 150,000.00 for posthumous awardees, payable to legal heir(s) ● Lifetime personal monthly stipend of P30, 000.00 ● Life insurance ● State funeral benefit not exceeding P500,000.00 4. A place of honor, in line with protocolar precedence, in state functions, national commemoration ceremonies, and all other cultural presentations. The National Artist Insignia - A Grand Collar adorned by circular links representing the arts. The main medallion commemorates the sun and the colors of the Philippine flag. The highly stylized three letter Ks (2) stand for "Katotohanan, Kabutihan, at Kagandahan" (the true, the good, and the beautiful).
