This trip was a part of our vocational training course as taken in COE 499 to give us more exposure and knowledge about the technology world and the job market.. The trip was insightful and worth the journey hence, this report entails details about our trip, what we learnt and about the company we visited. 4 • Control Panel with PLC System • Power Monitoring using PLC SCADA • Designing Commissioning of Panel • LT HT Panels • Energy Conservation Analysis • Capacitor Panels with APFC Figure 2: The arrangement of instruments in an application 2 Organization There are three main departments which are in charge of training individuals in a specific area in automation by offering practical hands-on skills training in Industrial Automation, Electrical Controls, Panels design and Wiring and Building Management Systems (BMS) . 3 Discussion Discussed below are the three main divisions at APCS automation training institution. 3.1 Instrumentation In the instrumentation department, we were enlightened about various instrument that are used to measure quantities that are of interest to a particular industry. The fundamental quantities are flow of liquids, temperature, and pressure. The instrumentation is important for picking the on-field data. The instrument discussed specifically include: • Pressure Gauges • Flow meter - Measuring direction of flow • Level transmitter • Thermometer 5 3.2 Electrical Controls The control department showed us how to control a motor by emphasizing how important the control of motors are in the automation industry. Motors have a lot of application and the instructor was particularly interested in how motors are used in pumps and compressors. Figure 3: Control department 3.3 PLC This is where we were showed how to program a plc to effect control on the instrument. The lesson included: • PLC room • STL language is used to program a plc • Scader system • Hmi • Networking • Profibus - process field bus • Profinet • Modbus 6 Figure 4: PLC department 3.4 Conclusion The trip was worth it and we learnt a lot about the instituition, its divisions, processes and opportuinities in the job market. It was automation training institution that gives training to engineers on how to program PLC(programmable logic controllers) to control factory operations like sorting, sieving amongst others to achieve automation. You can enroll in their training program which can take a minimum of 10 days and can go as far as 6months.
