Issues that affect the developing countries have become integral to the survival of today’s Int’l system. Usually the blame for the 3rd world’s current status falls on those outside powers depending on who you ask. Lack of answers for 3rd world problems has made the world system less secure, less stable, and the future less certain. What has been done to help the 3rd world? And what is it’s future? *term paper- why is your topic relevant? Argue for the historical issues; give brief background in beginning; towards the end give opinion; actors, consequences, factors, etc.* When developing countries emerged on Int’l scene, several attempts were made to find solutions to their problems. The reason they face problems lies not in the lack of effort, but more that nothing with enough effect has been done. Lacking in Political Will! STRATEGIES: 1. Foreign Aid : transfer of human and material resources from rich industrialized countries to the poorer countries of the 3rd world. Possible that developing countries can assist other 3rd world countries (China gives 10 billion to African countries). Why give aid in the first place?  Political reasons  Self interest  Economic reasons  Historical reasons- Euro countries feels some sense of guilt and go help their former colonies Aid has diminished in importance or significance. Some argue that aid has been abused by the gov’t. of the elites of these countries; Also the aid goes for allocations that help the large industries while neglecting the little people it was designed to help. White elephants- the big projects that do no good to greater good of the developing countries. “Small but Beautiful”- efforts to help the little people that need it. Some argue that Trade is better than Aid on an equitable basis. 2. Regional Economic Cooperation - small countries come together to reach their economic objectives. If these small 3rd world countries come together and are able to compete on a int’l level, they are more likely to be more effective on the Int’l scene. This will promote trade among the neighbors and help aid among one another. Ex:
