ENSURING A HEALTHY, SAFE, AND SECURE COMMUNITY DEFINITION OF TERMS Being HEALTHY โ means showing physical, mental, or emotional well-being, being free from diseases or illnesses. Being SAFE โ means being secured from the threat of danger, harm, or loss. Being SECURE โ means being free from danger or being relieved from exposure to danger SAFETY AND SECURITY โ means being free from danger or against physical aggression. โ It means freedom from fear, anxiety, and physical harm; freedom from uncertainty or doubt. โ It is a harmony between internal need and the social availability of the means for its satisfaction. SAFETY โ Simply defined as protection from accidents, danger, risk, hazards, or injury. โ It is related to the Health and well-being of people at work and in other activities. SECURITY โ It is a condition of being protected against planned, malicious, and criminal accidents. Security is protection against intentional threats, damages, or events It is the condition of being protected from danger, risk, hazards, or injury It is the state of being free from danger or threats. Safety Incidents happen by accident or are unplanned. Security incidents happen on purpose or are planned action. Safety specifically protects human lives and health Security specifically protects against crime. Safety Incidents are most often a result of human behavior in combination with the environment. Security incident is most often a result of one behaviour in combination with the environment person or a group's will. Safety accidents are seldom, if ever, malicious, but they can be criminal as they often are violations of regulations. Security incidents are mainly malicious and criminal acts (e.g. Espionage, theft, terrorism). Safety measures are created to protect people and property from injury or loss by circumstance, accident, or negligence. Security measures are created to protect people and property from injury or loss by deliberate actions taken by people.
