THANKS Marian and Doug Allender would like to thank everyone who supported their application for a Justices L icence on 14th. February. PORT ISAAC SCHOOL Summer Term : Tuesday 15th. April to Thursday 24th. July. Recommended half-term break: Monday 26th. May to Friday 30th. Autumn Term: Part 1 - Thursday 4th. September to Friday 17th. October. Part 2 - Monday 27th. October to Wednesday 17th. December. NORM AN REECE The whole v illage was saddened - hear o f the death of Norman iveece on February 28th. at his home, Trefreock Farmhouse, The funeral service at Roscarrock Hill Methodist Church on March 5th. was fully attended, showing how well respected he was. We express our deepest sympathy to his widow and fam ily in the loss o f a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Norman was form erly owner o f the Slipway Hotel, and latterly well known as keeper o f the car park on the beach at Port Isaac harbour. He was also a fine singer and could give an excellent rendition o f 'The Floral Dance'. He was Chairman o f F l Isaac Fishermen Ltd., and o f the Wadebridge and Port Isaac Labour Party. Sylvia Reece, Jacqueline and Josephine, wish to thank all who sent messages o f sympathy and gave support to them follow ing the loss o f a dearly loved husband and father, and for the many donations received in lieu o f flowers, which were sent to the Save the Children Fund. Trefreock Farmhouse, Port Isaac. ttOfie dSutet Cottier , or I am not ashamed o f the Gospel o f Jesus Christ: for it is the saving power o f God to everyone who believes; to the Jew first and also to the Gentile. Romans ch 1 v 16 PORT ISAAC ARTICLE IV DIRECTION ORDER Following my article in your Stop Press Edition at Christmas, the D istrict Council has now been informed by the Secretary of State that he is not prepared to confirm the Order, which will, therefore, lapse on the 20th. April, 1986. The Council is very disappointed with this setback as it will allow the Conservation Area to be subject to change beyond the control o f the Planning Authority. Such change unless carried out sympathetically and in character w ill destroy the charm and distinctive qualities o f Port Isaac. In an endeavour to suggest a voluntary control on future change the Council has decided that a planning guide should be produced to indicate the accept able principles o f design and building work within the Conservation Area, irrespective of whether or not a formal planning permission is legally required. Local co-operation in making such advice e ffe c tiv e in the future will be a top priority. To explain events over the last six months, and the future in itiative which we have in hand, I have gladly accepted the invitation extended by your Parish Council to speak at your Annual Meeting on Thursday 17th. April, 1986. Tony Philp, Planning & Development O fficer North Cornwall D istrict Council. YOUTH GROUP With help from grant funds, the Youth Group have started their film about L ife in Port Isaac. It w ill be a long time before the film can be finalised as money w ill have to be raised to pay for the necessary editing work. <D> f kik C O M M U N I T Y N E W S L E T T E R PUBLISHED FREE IN AND FOR THE PARISH OF ST. PARISH COUNCIL Notes o f the monthly meeting at Trelights Chapel Hall on Monday IOth. March 1986. As usual, many members o f the public were in attendance and were able to provide information from tim e to tim e about village matters concerning Trelights. St. Endeliion Churchyard Fund On a vote o f 7 for and 3 against, it was decided to increase the grant to £325 for the' year 86/87. Extension of Churchyard The D istrict Council need not take the responsibility of finding a new site so the Parish Council w ill meet the Glebe Com m ittee to discuss the purchase of some land for this. The site being o ffered for sale is not cheap and is also adjacent to the B.3314 and could be a ffected by any future road-widening scheme. Annual Parish Meeting O f the guest speakers invited to attend, Mr. David, Heritage Coast O fficer, Inspector Hawkey and Community Constable LeBaiily, County Councillor Lander, a Fire Service representative, and Patricia Richmond, National Agriculture Centre Rural Trust, have accepted. The meeting this year is at the Church Rooms on Thursday 17th. April at 7.30pm. Trelights Pump Mrs. Holden has paid the total bill of 1215.22 and the Parish Council are to contribute a sum which, together with the money from Trelights, will equal 50%. Trelights Green Councillors inspected the green, known in the village as 'L ette r Box' [See Trio, May 1984], and will put the seat from the corner there, facing down to the road. They w ill also ask the Highways Dept, if they can erect white posts with chains around the area. A sign 'Unsuitable for Heavy Vehicles' is also to be requested on the roads into Trelights. Trees at The Barton O f eight trees planted, only two are le ft. Application to be made to the D istrict Council to see if contractors engaged in work at the Barton can be asked to replace them. New Street Lights, Port Isaac In the next two or three years, the lighting is to be brought up to the County standard. Old-style, white light, lanterns would be suitable for the old part of the village, but the request for these must come from the Parish Council. Councillors expressed the view that this type o f light should be used throughout Port Isaac, Port Gaverne, and Trelights, and that orange ones should not be used at all. Surgery Direction Sign The Doctors are to be asked if they w ill put up signs at Tintagel Terrace and Hartland Road, to help strangers to the village find where the surgery is. Trelights Turning B.3314 The Highways Dept, are to be asked whether they have plans to improve the course o f the main road at Trecreege. Bus Shelter, Trelights Discussion of this item is to be postponed until a fter a Public M eeting in the village to discuss the use of some village funds. Donkey Derby Full agreement was given to an application by the Tintagei and Camelford Lions to run a Donkey Derby at the Playing Fields on 23rd. July. Planning Hills-the-Elder, single-storey dwelling adjacent to St. Peter's. Since this appears to involve some demolition, the Planning Dept, are to be notified that the Parish Council wish to hold a site meeting before making any observations. Public Discussion Mrs. Haygreen said that she still supported the idea o f a one-way system for Trelights. Sometimes it is necessary to back out into the main road if a large vehicle is encountered. In answer to questions, Cilr. Dawe affirm ed that the 'Jubilee' tree outside the Post O ffice will not be removed as part of the road works leading to his estate. Small support o f a local Cornwall Emergency Volunteers meeting raised the question of whether the Parish Council was in favour o f the scheme. The Council has its own Defence Com m itte but this also has succumbed to a general lack o f interest. Persons who fee l that resources should be available for deployment if an emergency occurs, should contact Cornwall Emergency Volunteers, at Old County Hall, Truro. Next Monthly Meeting Monday 14th.
