Running head: SPORTS MANAGEMENT RESEARCH – WHAT PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE? 1 Sport Management University of California, Santa Barbara ESS 140 Journal Article Extra Credit Assignment Example Sport Management Research - What PRogress Has Been Made? Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the “quantity and quality” of the research conducted on sport management (Paton, 1987, p. 25). A major emphasis of the research was on leadership behaviors. Research Findings: The article found that research needs to be able to translate the knowledge more effectively and efficiently. There are still many issues with consistency and processing of the information found in research. Implications: This shows that a lot of research has been conducted in the area of sport management. However, there are still problems with the way this research is carried out. For one, the research needs to be sensible and applicable to real world organizations. Second, non-educational organizations pertaining to sports administration – such as finance, marketing, personnel, and programs – will need new forms of research and direction. This means analysts will need to change their entire approach when experimenting in these areas, creating the potential for significant challenges in the future.
