MORAL SELF Moral self is a concept reflects the view of oneself in terms of moral behavior and has been proposed to predict actual behavior. MORAL Is related to the sense or a standard that determines what is right and what is wrong. It distinguishes correct from incorrect or appropriate from inappropriate. PARENTING STYLES AND PRACTICES This refers to the set of standards that enable people to live cooperatively in groups. It's what societies determine to be “right” and “acceptable.” Sometimes, acting in a moral manner means an individuals must sacrifice their own short-term interests to benefit society. Parenting Style and Practices One factor which affects the individual's development is ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES. It is characterized by forces outside of the individual like how he or she has been raised or reared by his or her parents. The foundations of moral reasoning and development are laid at home. The home is where children first learn to distinguish right/appropriate behaviours from wrong/inappropriate behaviours. What happens at home, especially during the growing up years is critical to personality development. AUTHORITARIAN is an extremely strict parenting style. It places high expectations on children with little responsiveness. As an authoritarian parent, you focus more on obedience, discipline, control rather than nurturing your child. AUTHORITATIVE this parenting style, the parents are nurturing, responsive, and supportive, yet set firm limits for their children. They attempt to control children's behavior by explaining rules, discussing, and reasoning. They listen to a child's viewpoint but don't always accept it. sometimes called “indulgent parenting,” is a style of child-rearing that features two key traits: being nurturing and warm (which is good for kids), and. being reluctant to impose limits (which is problematic).
