The evolution of cities, patterns of city growth, and the concept of urban life and alienation. Urbanization, a process of population concentration, has been happening on a large scale for about 200 years. City types throughout history, including pre-industrial cities, industrial-urban centers, and metropolitan and global cities. It also covers patterns of city growth, such as the concentric zone model, sector theory, and multiple nuclei theory. Lastly, it examines urban life and alienation, discussing why urban life might be alienating but also how urban dwellers create their own communities.
