Make sure you are familiar with these basic Excel procedures before you begin: a. setting decimal place b. resizing rows and columns c. deleting rows and columns d. accessing Help menu e. entering formulas f. using find/replace g. paste special h. entering formulas i. anchoring values in formulas j. sorting k. transposing 2. Download the Excel spreadsheet distance_quad.xls from the class home page. 3. Calculate the values for the shaded boxes in the file distance_quad.xls. Make sure to keep all your formulas intact so I can document your work. Note: there are two worksheets in this file. Make sure you do both of them. 4. Using your group’s field data from the trip to the Garden of Eden trail, calculate the following metrics for each tree species using the distance method. We will do the quadrat data next week. Make sure to format your Excel sheet so I can check your work; in other words, be neat and orderly. a. Distance method i. Species relative density ii. Species relative dominance iii. Species importance 5. Submit your values for these metrics on a separate worksheet in your Excel file. For rows list the species names in alphabetical order, and for columns, use density, dominance, and importance. To submit: Submit all two Excel files via the digital dropbox. Make sure to clearly label your files. Follow the file naming conventions below.
