Fundamentals of Public Health Engineering: Water and Wastewater Treatment, Schemes and Mind Maps of Water and Wastewater Engineering

An overview of water and wastewater treatment processes, removal methods, and treatment stages and technologies. It discusses the physical, chemical, and biological processes used to improve water quality for various end-uses, such as drinking, industrial use, irrigation, and environmental purposes. The document also covers the regulatory requirements for water treatment in the philippines. This information is valuable for students studying public health engineering, environmental engineering, and chemical engineering.

WATER AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT EnE171 Fundamentals of Public Health Engineering Ralf Ruffel Abarca, PhD Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology Water treatment is any process that improves the quality of water to make it appropriate for a specific end-use. The end use may be drinking, industrial water supply, irrigation, river flow maintenance, water recreation or many other uses, including being safely returned to the environment. WATER TREATMENT REMOVAL METHODS In physical process the solids from water are removed by sedimentation, skimming, screening. there is no use of chemicals required in this process. The main techniques of physical wastewater treatment include sedimentation, in which suspending the heavy particles/insoluble from the water. Aeration is also one of the other physical water treatment techniques. In which the air is circulated through the water to provide oxygen to it. Filtration is the third method that is used to filter out all the contaminants. The most common type is sand filter it can remove the grease found on the surface of wastewater and can also be removed by this method. https://civilmint.com/wastewater-treatment/ REMOVAL METHODS Chemical process use reagents for treatment. To kill bacteria chlorine is commonly used as an oxidizing chemical and decomposes water by adding contaminants into it. Ozone is also another one of the oxidizing agent used for purifying the wastewater. pH adjustment is made through neutralization. https://civilmint.com/wastewater-treatment/ REMOVAL METHODS In biological process, organic matter present in wastewater, such as human waste, soap, oils, and foods can be broken down with the help of microorganisms that metabolize organic matter. https://civilmint.com/wastewater-treatment/
