Causes of water pollution Fuel Spillages The conveyance and garage of oil and its products is a challenge towards lost that contaminates our water bodies. Deforestation Cutting down trees can destroy water bodies and cause natural residue which turns into a breeding floor for dangerous bacteria. Industrial Waste Industries and industrial sites across the world are the major contributor to water pollution. Many industrial sites produce waste in the form of toxic chemicals and pollutants, and though regulated, some still do not have proper waste management systems in place. Therefore, in those rare cases, industrial waste is channeled into nearby water bodies. Agriculture The agricultural sector also pollutes water, especially when farmers use chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides in order to protect their crops weeds and bacteria and insects respectively. Effects of Water Pollution Destruction of Biodiversity Water pollutants eliminates marine life and lower growth of phytoplankton in oceans, seas and some lakes. Diseases According to World Health Organization database, approximately about two billion people have no any alternative however to drink water infected with chemicals, exposing them to illnesses such as cholera hepatitis A and amoebic dysentery.
