THE OWL AND THE NIGHTINGALE-Thomas Wyatt The first thing this poem shows is the fight between two figures represented as birds in two different settings. These settings such us the type of bird they are or their lifestyle suggest us that they are the reasons why the two birds fight. The first bird that argues is a nightingale, a small bird that beautifully warbles in a great position (like is mentioned in the first half of the second paragraph) and the second bird is a big one that doesn’t warble but howls and moreover in a lower position. The author tries to make the readers reflex about their ideology and why the people considered enemies act like they do. We can see this at the end of the third paragraph when the owl says ‘If I hold you in my talons… you’d sing in a very different tune!’ This could be translated as ‘If you were in my position you’ll understand why I act like this’. The conclusion of this poem is the reflex about humankind and the world. The author tries to make us understand that we shouldn’t judge people for how they act before knowing why they do it. 2. PASSIONS IN A LOVER-Thomas Wyatt This poem tries to explain what people feel when they are in love. The author does this through contradictions because that what feelings are. Love is a really complicated thing and it’s far from easy to explain it with love. 3. LOVE-George Herbert This poem talks about a merciful God that can forgive the sins, Love. Apart this God, there is another figure that is entering his kingdom. This person feels guilty for his actions and firstly refuses to accept God’s mercy but God manages this person and he finally accepts forgiveness. 5.NO MAN IS AN ISLAND-John Donne This poem demonstrates the equality of mankind. 'if a clod be washed away' is any person, rich or poor, of any physical or mental characteristics. No matter how prideful or arrogant, no man is an island, we each need every clod! In this poem, John Donne explores the idea of the connectedness of people. People are not isolated islands. We are all a part of a larger thing, and if one person dies, everyone is affected. Although it seems like a sad poem when you first read it, understanding the idea of it – that we are all connected and important – can help you be more concerned about other people. When something happens on the other side of the world, it still affects you. If you feel sad or happy about something that doesn’t really seem related to you, this poem explains why that is okay. It’s okay to be interested in people you don’t know. It’s okay to be concerned about people you’ve never met. You are a part of mankind. 6.Death, be not proud-John Donne John Donne is directly talking to Death. This is essentially the main point of the entire poem which presents an argument against the power of Death. Donne tells Death not to be proud. Some people have called Death powerful, but Donne claims Death is not. Death may believe that he has beaten those who die, but Donne says that those people do not truly die, because their souls live on in the afterlife. According to Donne and the poem, people who die are only dead momentarily, then they live along with all other spirits in Heaven. This is why Donne claims Death cannot kill him. 7. The storm-George Herbert Is an inside curse. The storm is like a punish that clean him from the inside. 8. SONNET 12-W.SHAKESPEARE
