Animal Cruelty – Paola Moreno Every 60 seconds, an animal is abused. It's unreasonable the amount of harm these innocent creatures have to go through by individuals of what we call ourselves with such praise: humanity, funny enough while committing this actions there's no signal of decency, tact or thoughtfulness, some of humanity traits. Over the centuries there's been wars, pandemics and a constant need for supremacy, we're currently known as ‘'the information age’’ who has bright ideas and a chance to change but animal cruelty continues to occur all over the world. Therefore, animal cruelty is the abuse or neglect of an animal, simple as that. So, if it's so easy to acknowledge, why is it so frequent? For instance, the most oblivious type of abuse is domestic violence, in which the abuser may threaten animals in front of children and partners to keep them from reporting abuse or leaving. By hurting the animals, the abuser is sending the message that a human victim could be next. Another way to practice domestic violence is by animal hoarding, this occurs when a person owns a bigger quantity of animals that they can care of, which leads to neglect. In addition, there's the animal exploitation which has financial purposes. Some people have a sense of entitlement toward animals, they believe that humans have the right to use animals in any way they wish, including for monetary gain. If someone can sell animal meat or by-products and make a profit, they can justify the slaughtering of innocent animals. In the farmer’s mind, they're simply providing for their family and the same goes for any industry that victimizes animals for monetary gain. Circuses, aquatic theme parks, and others often exploit animals in the name of entertainment. Even zoos, which are often viewed as positive contributors to a community, can be rife with animal cruelty. When an animal is abused, a chain reaction begins in our community. Not only does an innocent animal get injured but the person who commits the offense often falls into a cycle that could ultimately result
