In this chapter of 'frankenstein', victor reflects on the upcoming judgment of justine moritz, who is accused of a crime she maintains her innocence for but cannot explain. Despite a strong defense from elizabeth, justine is sentenced to death. Victor and elizabeth visit her in prison, where she confesses to a false crime out of fear. Justine goes to her execution without fear, leaving victor to grapple with his guilt and the consequences of his creation.

CHAPTER 8- The chapter begins with a reflective and concerned victor about the judgment of Justine Moritz, which will be the next morning at 11.00 Victor said: “It was to be decided whether the result of my curiosity and lawless devices would cause the death of two of my fellow beings: one a smiling babe full of innocence and joy, the other far more dreadfully murdered, with every aggravation of infamy that could make the murder memorable in horror. * During the trial, Justine maintains that she is innocent, but cannot explain how William's portrait ended up in her pocket. Due to this evidence, she is sentenced to death. (later we will see how frankentein was guilty of placing it in justine's pocket) 2- Justine behaves calmly at trial. Responds to the charges, and gets an excellent defense from Elizabeth. Although Justine proclaims her innocence, it is not enough and she is found guilty of the crime. Sentenced to be hanged the next day. 3- In court a judge tells Victor that Justine has already confessed the crime,so Victor and Elizabeth decide to go visit Justine in prison to find out why she confessed. She explains that she confessed a lie forced by her jailers, otherwise she would go to hell. After that Justine says she is ready to die and leave the "sad and bitter world" behind.
