Darcy is intrigued by Lizzy. Darcy has the interest of Miss Bingley. explanation of Bennet's social and financial situation about him. Jane takes a walk to Netherfield, but she ends up staying because of a cold. However, Jane is ill. Miss Bingley mocks Lizzy's actions towards her and her family. Mrs. Dot Bennet humiliates Lizzy when she arrives at Netherfield. As they discuss whether Lizzy is perfect, Darcy's interest in her grows. He is still envious of Miss Bingley. Although Bingley is sad to see them go, Jane and Lizzy return to Longbourn. 10 Mar 23 13-23 Darcy and Wickham seem to have a lot of trouble getting along, as Elizabeth observes. Elizabeth forms a positive impression of Mr. Wickham over dinner and continues to talk to him throughout the evening. When Elizabeth tells Jane about her conversation with Wickham, Jane resists the urge to criticize either Darcy or Wickham. When Mrs. Bennet learns from Mr. Collins that Elizabeth has refused to marry him, she asks Mr. Bennet to convince her otherwise. For the rest of the day, Mr. Collins treats Elizabeth as coldly as she does, while he focuses on Charlotte Lucas. Mr. Collins finally returns to Longbourn to finish preparing for his wedding. 17 Mar 23 Vol. II 1-10 Caroline Bingley writes to Jane once more to confirm that her family will spend the winter in London. Mrs. Dot Gardiner likes to chat with Wickham about the friends they both have in common. Elizabeth and Mrs. Dot Gardiner have a private conversation about Wickham and Elizabeth's attraction to him. Mrs. Dot Gardiner warns Elizabeth against becoming attached to a man with such limited financial prospects. The two dinners a week that Elizabeth and the Collins family have at Rosings are interchangeable with each other. When Elizabeth walks in the park, she frequently runs into Darcy, despite her efforts to stay away from him. She always stops to say hello and follows her to the Collins' house whenever they pass. 24 Mar 23 11-19 Because of her headache, Elizabeth stays in Hunsford while Mary, Mr. and Mrs. Collins go to Rosings for dinner. When there is a knock on the door, Elizabeth thinks it might be Colonel Fitzwilliam, but she is surprised to find Darcy there. Elizabeth decides to go for a walk, however, Mr. Darcy finds her. He quickly hands her a letter and leaves. Elizabeth is curious about her content, and she reads Darcy's letter. Over lunch, Lydia tells Jane and Elizabeth that Miss King has left the region, meaning Wickham is available again. Elizabeth tells Jane about Darcy's proposal, and about the part of the letter that she refers to Wickham. Jane is more surprised by Wickham than by the marriage proposal. Mrs. Bennet's beauty at first captivated her future husband, but her foolishness soon dissolved her affection for her. 31 Mar 23 Vol. III 1-8 Elizabeth is captivated by Pemberley's beauty and fantasizes about possessing her. She almost feels sorry for rejecting Darcy. The Pemberley housekeeper gives Elizabeth and the Gardiners a tour of the house, while she praises Mr. Darcy and Georgiana. Darcy takes Georgiana to the inn where Elizabeth is staying. She is surprised to see them, since the girl has just arrived. Georgiana welcomes Elizabeth and Mrs. Gardiner politely at Pemberley, although she too is very shy. Elizabeth is certain that Wickham does not plan to marry Lydia. Knowing Lydia's naivety, she also assumes that Wickham must have tricked her. When Elizabeth and Jane are alone, they discuss the situation in more detail.
