ΗΘΙΚΉ ETHICS O N B E H A V I O U R DEFINITION • At its simplest, ethics is a system of moral principles. they affect how people make decisions and lead their lives. It was created by the Greek philosophers since they were concerned with what is good for individuals and society and is also described as moral philosophy. • The term is derived from the Greek word ethos which can mean custom, habit, character or disposition. Ethics is not about to be good and happy all the time, is about the wide variety of judgements and methods that humans shape to establish concepts of good and evil. Ethics covers the following dilemmas How to live a good life Our rights and responsibilities The language of right and wrong Moral decisions - what is good and bad? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u399XmkjeXo&ab_channel=TheEthicsCentre • Morality: From the Latin moralitas-manner, character, proper conduct. Is the form to distinguish actions, intentions and decisions from good and evil, Which are proper? And Which are not proper? • Law: Established codes to regulate human behaviour. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xki2fRA0bY8&t=20s&ab_channel=TheEthicsCentre • Ethics does not provide a right answer, but is meant to find solutions to improve social relationships and to generate a social ambience without violence, without damages, free from physical and emotional abuse. Is the reason that ethics is focused on the methods, daily routines, beliefs, cultural background and human values to comprehend the will of individuals and their choices. If there are actions provoking damages, ethics can be used to understand and then, to shift. • For example: Religious institutions, one thing is the religion, the idea of a god or many gods, and another very different the institution that creates concepts and in the name of their god, tend to abuse, people abuse, not a god, people use the image and the name of a god to control others, not a god, people use a god to make wars for political purposes, not a god. • Another example is the atom, Democritus established the existence of atoms, and centuries later Albert Einstein proved that through mathematics. None said that atoms must be applied for destruction, for atomic bombs. • The witchcraft, most of the times is used for evil and selfish purposes like magic spells to make someone to fall in love with you, also to provoke disgrace and misery in somebody else, few occasions is used to wish good things. Witches build the idea that we have enemies and is our duty to clear our path from them. • Prometheus, a Titan who created humans from clay and then, he stole the fire from the gods and give it to the civilisations. The gods were afraid of the use of fire. Fire is knowledge, how humans would use knowledge? For good or evil? The purpose is the key for ethics, is the reason that is related to law and justice in order to take decisions.
